Summary
SummaryβMy name is Elinor Caves, and although I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, my life changed when I went to college in St. Paul, Minnesota. Thatβs where I sensed God calling me to work with children in Ireland. I thought I wasnβt good at languages, but God taught my heart to trust Him completely. π After returning to the U.S., I was offered a secure state jobβan opportunity I never imagined Iβd have. But my heart was set on overseas missions. I told God, βBy Friday, if I donβt hear from them, Iβll accept this job.β At 5 PM that Friday, I got a call from Eugene, Oregon: I was hired to serve in post-Korean War childrenβs ministry.
Traveling to Vietnam during wartime was harrowing. We loaded children onto airplanes under enemy fire, stripping out seats and laying babies on blankets, while older children clung around the perimeter. I realized then that it wasnβt about what I could do for the Lord, but what He allowed me to do in the hardest circumstances. π We saved many children by His grace. After Vietnam, I served in Korea and India. Eventually, I returned to the United States to continue volunteering in my local community. Now at eighty-seven, I believe my best years are still ahead because God is still teaching me what it means to trust Him completely. πβ
Over the course of 87 years, God has taken Elinor Caves all over the world. Elinor served in Ireland, Vietnam, Korea, India, and she continues to serve now here at home. βItβs really beautiful to understand that He has a purpose for you, but you need to just show up,β she says.
Even now God is still teaching Elinor what it means to trust completely in Him, and at 87 she believes that the best years for her are still ahead. Listen to her story, and consider what it would look like to trust God completely in your own life.
