In college at FAMU, I chased parties, high grades, leadership roles, and relationships, yet I was lonely and empty inside. My pride and arrogance hardened my heart, and I refused help or true fellowship. One day, Angie stopped me between classes and invited me to a Bible group. I agreed out of curiosity and was stunned by the genuine love and humility of those women. Studying Scripture exposed my sin and brought me face-to-face with Jesus at the cross. Two weeks later, on October 5, 1990, I was baptizedβ€”and everything changed. Now, I live not on my own strength but on His, cherishing every moment of real fellowship, family, and God’s unfailing love.

Since I was young, I knew I wanted to follow God after living “my best life” first. I got exactly what I wanted. I had the “fun” I so desperately sought after by going to parties when I started college and worked hard to reap all the rewards that success offers.

But I got tired of parties, the lack of friendships, and struggled through school. Worldly fun left me lonely and unfulfilled. Meanwhile, pride and arrogance grew with each achievement and hardened my heart.

Sophomore year, I wanted things to be different. I actually was invited to go to a bible discussion and was taken back by the genuine love of everyone there. When I studied the bible, I battled learning God’s word and was humbled by the weight of my own sin. I saw how ignorant I have been to His word, knowing about God but not really knowing Him. I knew about the bible, but didn’t know how to apply it to my life to see real lasting change.

As I continue in my walk with God, I’m so grateful for God’s persistence and how He’s never given up on me!
