I’m Derek from Dewsbury. Foster homes, boarding schools and a father who walked out left me angry and lost. At 14 a whirlpool dragged me under—only a stranger’s hand saved me. ⚽ Dreams of Leeds United fame faded, drugs and drink took their place, yet inside I kept asking, “There must be more.” On 14 June 1987 at 7:30 p.m. a house‑group leader read Jeremiah 29:11 and asked, “Any reason you can’t give your heart to Jesus?” None! I prayed, and next dawn the world looked electric green; my stony heart was flesh. Today—37 years later—I rap the gospel, preach on Halifax streets and tell every orphaned soul: the Father is knocking. 🙌
