It wasn’t rules or circumstances that saved meβ€”it was His comfort and presence that brought healing. Now, instead of bitterness, I overflow with compassion for others hurting around me πŸ™. Hi, my name is Wendy. I had an encounter with God when I was a teenager that radically transformed my life. Things were really, really great for about five years, and then everything changed. I had a serious horse accident that resulted in five pelvic surgeries, bankruptcy, and left its mark with 32 years of debilitating chronic pain. I had so many dreams for my life that didn’t include going down the path of pain and suffering, and that really just changed who I am. And I questioned why I was upset with God many times. Why would you allow such suffering when I’m your child? And deep questions. But in the suffering, I discovered something that truly made a difference. Jesus came. He came to earth over 2,000 years ago, and he lived in a human body for 33 years, fully God and fully man.

He knows pain better than anyone because he was scorned, rejected, mocked, beaten beyond recognition, and died a horrible death on the cross. He didn’t have to leave heaven and come to earth, but he chose to step out of eternity and become one of us, to walk in our shoes, walk alongside us. He didn’t have to live in our pain until he makes everything right. And so, yeah, I had a lot of suffering, a lot of questions, a lot of frustration along the way. And in that reality, I could come to him with all of my anguish and my emotions and pour it out to him, and he understands, and knowing that he identifies and he cares. Nothing can change the human heart like Jesus. I literally did a 180 in my heart.

It wasn’t an outward circumstance or a set of rules. It was a literal heart change. These circumstances are never what I would have chosen for my life, but I can say they changed me for the better. I’ve developed such a tremendous compassion for others who are hurting. When I see them, the love of God just pours out of my heart, and I know that that can only come from him and what he’s allowed me to go through to bring comfort to others. Peace is a process. Peace isn’t the absence of God. It’s not conflict. It’s about knowing that someone cares deeply and feels your pain. I don’t think that peace is something that comes easy. The Bible says, seek peace and pursue it, and receiving the comfort that one day all this will be over, and if you believe in Christ, then there’s eternity waiting where everything will be made right the way it was supposed to be.
