Summary

My name is Gwen Mitchell, and I serve as a missionary in Hungary. Ever since childhood, when my older brother first traveled to Eastern Europe, I sensed a burden for the post-communist region. I grew up visiting places like Romania and Hungary with my parents, but at first, I had no personal relationship with Christ. Everything shifted during my freshman year of college, when I truly encountered Jesus and felt His burden for youth who lacked discipleship. Despite some tough experiences traveling alone, I knew I wasn’t giving up the call—I simply prayed that God would equip me and provide a partner. After marrying my husband, we discovered Josiah Venture and learned how they build local youth ministries so teenagers can grow in their faith year-round. Moving to Hungary with our family meant new challenges, like unexpected housing shifts, but God continues to open hearts in our neighborhoods. Though I don’t always understand His plans, I’ve learned to trust Him with every step. To anyone feeling called to missions: Seek God’s timing, prepare wholeheartedly, and embrace the doors He opens—He will work in your life far beyond your expectations.
