Summary

My name is Batoul, and my journey as a Christian in North Africa was never what I imagined. I once thought that becoming a Christian would be easy, but when I chose to follow Jesus, my mother and sisters rejected me. I experienced intense loneliness and even physical abuseβ€”my family forbade me from sharing meals with them, isolating me as if I were an outcast. I faced opposition at work as well, having to hide my faith to keep my job. Despite all the suffering and the constant pain I feltβ€”even to the point of losing hopeβ€”God intervened. I met a local partner from Open Doors who taught me about persecution and helped me see that I was not alone. Today, despite the scars of rejection, I am filled with hope, joy, and love. My faith has sustained me, and though the pain lingers, I continue to trust that Jesus is with me. I pray that by sharing my testimony, others facing similar trials will find the strength to keep their faith and know that God’s love is greater than any opposition.

Society in #NorthAfrica is predominantly Muslim and families often turn on those who reject their traditional beliefs. When Batoul* chose as a girl to follow Jesus, her mother and sisters turned on her – but she’s found the strength to continue in her faith through her church community.
