I poured all my pain into becoming stronger, playing in the NFL and succeeding in Hollywood, but the anger only drove me deeper into isolation. On a Christmas trip back to Flint, I finally unleashed that rageโand found no satisfaction in violence. Hitting my father within an inch of his life left me emptier than ever. It took a pastorโs counsel and getting down on my knees in faith to press the true reset button in 2010 ๐. I realized forgivenessโnot revengeโwas the path to freedom. I thanked him simply for giving me life, called him โBig Terry,โ and found the courage to hug him for the first time. That act of grace began to heal my marriage and set me free. Today, I choose true success in freedom through Christโs love โจ.
