Summary
SummaryI’m Lauren, and from kindergarten through eighth grade I was bullied so badly that I believed I wasn’t good enough 😔. By age seven I’d been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and when I arrived at UNL, I felt totally lost—no identity, no purpose. Watching my friend play soccer reignited a spark inside me; I decided to try out and burst into tears of joy when I made the team ⚽😭. Through teammates like Michaela and Haley, and prayers led by Coach Anna’s husband at FCA, I felt God’s Spirit fill my heart for the very first time 🙏💖. Now I know my worth comes not from achievements, but from being God’s child—depression and anxiety can’t define me, but His love can sustain me every day 😊✨.
After experiencing bullying as a child, Lauren struggled with her self-worth. Those struggles followed her to college at UNL. Having played soccer since the age of 4, a friend of Lauren’s on the soccer team encouraged her to try out, and she made the team! Making the team gave Lauren a great sense of accomplishment but deep down she still struggled with her value and purpose. Some girls on the soccer team invited Lauren to join them at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Lauren soon discovered that as a child of God’s she could place her full identity in Him- and that no amount of anxiety or fear could take away form the fact that in God’s eyes she’s worth something special.
