Summary
SummaryI’m Jacob, and one Sunday after church I turned to Laura and said, “Trust me—we need to drive to Northside Lincoln.” We found Juma, a homeless man living under a bridge near the Supersaver parking lot, and simply sat with him, shared a meal, and chatted about life. As our friendship grew, we invited him to thanksgiving with my parents and even into our home—offering showers, clean clothes, and a bed. Over time we learned Juma battled severe alcohol addiction, a struggle that shaped every visit. Despite our prayers, he tragically succumbed to his addiction. Juma taught me that God calls us all to open our hearts, to love sacrificially, and to step into the places of need around us. 🙏❤️
It’s hard sometimes to see all of the need around us. It can be overwhelming… and as a result, it is often easier to just not focus on it and get back to life as we’ve been living it. The only problem is, the need is still there. In our hearts we feel this tension. What is God asking me to do? What will I have to give up? “Oh God, give us a heart of compassion and a true understanding of how you want to use us today!”
