Summary

SummaryI’m Darline, a percussion worshiper from Eugene, Oregon. When my first husband battled cancer, worship became my lifelineβ€”I felt God carrying me through every hospital visit and tear I never shed. After his passing, I poured love into my children, but a later marriage brought abuse that stole my peace. Finally, I cried out to Jesus, and He set me free. Through songs like β€˜Don’t Give Up’ and β€˜Safe in His Arms,’ I found strength, healing, and hope. Jesus is my answerβ€”and He can be yours, too.

Darline is more than a percussionist; she’s an overcomer. Through song, she’s seen Jesus sustain her and lead her through the hardest seasons: the loss of a husband, and abuse at the hand of another.

And she’s got a message for you if you’re going through it: “You can believe that what’s been said to you or what’s been done to you is who you are. But no, Jesus is your answer.”

Hi, I’m Darlene, and I am a percussion worshiper. Been here in Eugene over 30 years of my life. I love worshiping, and one of my sisters had told me that your power is in your worship, Darlene. And I’ve seen that get me through and have a lot of breakthroughs in my life. The first husband, finding out he had cancer, going back and forth to hospitals in Portland. It’s hard to explain when you, at such an early age of someone suffering, and you’re watching them, and there’s nothing really you can do but just support and do everything you can to make them comfortable and know that they’re loved. It was hard, and I cried because I didn’t cry then. And this is so odd, guys, because I could feel God carrying me through that.

But now, when I look back, it’s like, wow, that was something. And after him passing, it was hard for the kids and everything, but I wanted to make their life as best as possible. And a few years went by, and then I met someone. I just felt like, well, God give me somebody else, maybe this family. But as time went on, things start to happen that I didn’t feel comfortable with. I didn’t, but I was too afraid to say anything or do anything. Like. I don’t know what else women will do, you know, and you hide things or you don’t say nothing. And but you could also see it affecting the children. And you don’t know still again what to do. And finally, again, when you realize enough is enough, you have to make a decision on what to do.

At this point, the children had grown up more and they’d left, you know, home and, you know, got out on their own and stuff. But I think eventually I have to live before I die. That was the point where I said, you know, God, you got to step back in. And he did. And I was able to get out of it and feel free and safe and secure with Jesus being right there the whole time, taking me through it, you know. Abuse, it strips you of a lot, you know. And women that suffer through it, I would say to them that, you know, Jesus is your answer. You can get so thinking that what’s been said, you know, said to you or done to you is who you are, but it isn’t. In Christ Jesus, he, you know, he lets you know, no, those are not those things. And through it all, I have been able to sing through it all because that was my strength and my source. And songs that would be chosen, there was one that was Don’t Give Up. There was one I did that was Nobody But Jesus, Safe in His Arms. Oh my God, those songs, from the death of the husband to the divorce.

Those songs just, oh, they expressed everything that I needed to go through and get through. Yeah, yeah. Oh, he’s been my provider. He’s been my protector. Jesus, he’s real. Jesus is real in my life.
