My name is River, 45, and until September 2015, I never imagined God would choose me. I grew up in a singleโ€‘parent home with a love for school assemblies and hymns. As a teenager I turned to cannabis and heavy metal music, later moved on to the gym but fell into anabolic steroids and wild nights out. By 2009, after a ladsโ€™ trip to Prague, I felt an inexplicable tug on my heart under a starโ€‘filled skyโ€”and from that point, life spiraled into darkness: paranoia, sleepless nights, even barricading my bedroom door. Doctors, hypnotists, and selfโ€‘help offered no relief. Then my mum invited me to a house group, and I clung to a gifted bookโ€”The Battle Between the Earsโ€”where I felt the Spirit urging me to trust Jesus completely. On a Thursday night I stood behind my locked door, declared my faith, removed every lock, and went to bed. When I woke up, it was as if I had swallowed the sunโ€”darkness gone, replaced by overwhelming light and joy. Since then Iโ€™ve never been the same: Iโ€™ve led others to Christ, formed a WhatsApp prayer group, written books, and trained as a Christian counselorโ€”all by His grace! ๐Ÿ™Œโ˜€๏ธ
