Lorenzo Sewell’s Testimony

In this testimony, Lorenzo Sewell shares his incredible journey from the streets of Detroit to his life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. Born and raised on the tough east side of Detroit, Lorenzo was mentored by individuals deeply entrenched in the harsh realities of street life, including murderers and criminals. At the age of 11, his childhood was shattered by violence as gunshots rang out in the neighborhood while he was playing Atari. His father was in prison for murder, and Lorenzo himself became involved in drug dealing, navigating the perilous world of crime.

But everything changed for Lorenzo on April 18th, 1999. Under the influence of ecstasy, acid, and shrooms, he experienced a divine moment that would alter the course of his life forever. A security guard, who never revealed his name or church affiliation, approached him and asked if he could pray for him. That simple prayer ignited the conviction of the Holy Spirit in Lorenzo’s heart, leading him to Straight Gate Church where he was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost.

At just 18 years old, Lorenzo began his journey in ministry, and soon after, his life took another remarkable turn. At the age of 19, Bishop Andrew Jonathan Davis Meritt called on him to become his agent. Lorenzo’s first assignment took him to T.D. Jakes’ church, where he preached his first sermon—a moment he credits as the beginning of his true calling.

Today, Lorenzo Sewell is the pastor of a church in Detroit, a city that faces unimaginable struggles. His church is located in one of the most dangerous and underserved areas, where human trafficking and addiction are rampant. Despite the challenges of ministering in such a harsh environment, Lorenzo and his team continue to preach the gospel, witnessing miraculous transformations in the lives of the people they serve.

In this video, Lorenzo talks about the deep need for spiritual change in his community and the incredible stories of lives being turned around. People from all walks of life—those in the LGBTQ+ community, young men aging out of foster care, and others from diverse backgrounds—are finding new hope and salvation. Lorenzo shares how these individuals, once lost in their struggles, are now boldly sharing the gospel, spreading the message of Jesus Christ wherever they go.
