Summary
SummaryI’m Rhys, an Algerian-born believer who grew up devoted to Allah—praying five times a day, fasting Ramadan, even reciting the shahada before I could walk 😊. My hunger to understand the Quran led me from my grandparents’ home in Algeria to college life in the United States. Yet, as I dove into surahs—like the tale of Zulqarnain finding the sun in a muddy spring (Surah 18) and verses on jihad (Surah 9)—I felt something missing. The violence, the demeaning of women, the call to terror—it jarred against my spirit. Then one verse stood out: “You have no ground to stand on unless you observe the Torah and the Gospel” (Surah 5). I began reading the Bible, attending studies, wrestling with Jesus’ words in Matthew 5: “Love your enemies…pray for those who persecute you” ❤️. On December 12, 2010, at 19, I knelt at the foot of the cross and gave my life to Christ—then was baptized days later. My family’s reaction was brutal: death threats, rejection, even violence. But God’s grace turned my heart toward forgiveness. Today, I’ve reconciled with them, living out the grace I’ve received. At the end of my search for Allah, I found Jesus—the pearl of infinite value that cost me everything yet gave me everything. 🙌
“We believe in what was revealed to us, and what was revealed to you. Our God and your God is one.” Those are the words that Muslims are commanded to say to Christians (and Jews) in regards to what the Quran teaches compared to the Bible. But a deeper dive into the Quran reveals much more…
This is the story of how and why an Algerian-born Muslim became a Christian after he decided to dedicate his life to Allah… Not Jesus, Allah.
