Summary
SummaryIโm Brian, and from the time I was nine or ten years old, I dreamed of serving people in crisis. ๐๐ฎโโ๏ธ Early in my career, as a patrol officer, I saw a young mother and her little childโs fear in a domestic violence situation. I wanted to be the person they could turn to in their darkest hour. Over the years I became a police chief and then a federal officer, even serving on the Nebraska Crime Commission. To everyone else, it looked like Iโd reached the pinnacle of success. But inside, I felt an overwhelming lonelinessโa nagging emptiness I couldnโt explain. ๐
By my mid-30s (or early 40s), I lost my youngest brother to brain cancer, then my father and mother one after another. The weight of those losses crushed me physically and emotionally. ๐ข For over a year, I poured everything into caring for my brother, and after he passed, I still felt hollow. Then one Tuesday evening, it all came crashing down. In tears, I called a friend who was a true believer and said, โI canโt do this anymore. I need help.โ ๐
That night, I learned what it truly meant to be saved. I humbled myself, asked Jesus to forgive me, and let Him into my life. I realized that while I was trained to save others, Iโd been ignoring my own need for rescue. Jesus died for my sins so I wouldnโt have to carry that burden alone. Ever since that moment, Iโve experienced a peace I never thought possible. โค๏ธ
As a police officer, Brian spent his life learning how to save someone when they needed help the most. He forgot, however, about himself. Like so many of us, Brian came to realize that he couldnโt fix everything himself or carry the weight of life alone. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again to offer us salvation. We just need to be willing to humble ourselves, to let God into our lives, to be that savior and make all the difference.
